So...I am at work tonight--working late because I had my wisdom teeth out and I am a bit behind. I came in and saw this picture that Marc and Selena took last night and I was like...HELLO--got to blog that beauty! I am a bit busted because blogging is the last thing I should be doing, but when you see something so beautiful--isn't it ok to share? I did a tight b&w crop to it too because I loved it!

Highlite Photography is the official Miss Utah photographer. We have been taking the girls pics this past few months getting them ready for the Miss Utah pageant. It has been so much fun! Anyway, this morning, we are on Channel 2 news with Casey doing his "official glamour shots!" This weekend, Gardner Village is having a fun celebration called the Queen of Hearts. We will be doing glamour shots during this event. When I was thinking about "glamour"--one of the pics we recently did I thought totally defined the word "glamour!"

Hippest Dogs in Town

This event has to be one of my favorites of all time! Combined with Emilee's Paw Spa and Highlite Photography, last Saturday, we did a doggie makeover portrait session at the studio. This was our first year doing it and I must say--we will do it again! What a blast! Let us know which dog you think is the cutest? We will be announcing the hip dog at the end of the week!

It is moments like these that make me realize how important and wonderful my job is! We have waited for this little guy to come in their lives for awhile now. When they walked in the studio, Sophie, the little girl, says "Hi Mindy"--like we were pals from long ago. I just love this! I can't say enough of how much I adore these sweet children--it seems like yesterday we were doing Sophie's newborn pics!

We love you guys tons!

So much to be thankful for!

February is such a hard month for me. I really am not a winter girl even though I spent most of my life covered in snow in Wyoming. I have been so thrilled with the nice weather we have had in the past few days. I was up in Park City yesterday and couldn't believe how beautiful it is. The other day Selena and I headed out to take this sweet little girl's pictures. She was such a trooper in the weather and who couldn't love her sweet little jacket from Janie and Jack? Can't wait to see them soon!

So, today, I am going to be grateful for all that we have and love life! We are launching our new family and baby website any day now! Such a team effort in pulling this one off! It has taken us over a month to do, but I will be thrilled to share it with you. I am so grateful for professional photographers also. This has been a hard time for the industry and I am thrilled for those that have stayed true to the field and continued to excel in the arts. I am also so grateful that I have a dentist nearby since I lost a tooth and um, I think I am a little too old for the toothfairy!

Alright, I heard that Mr. Groundhog told us that we have 6 more weeks of winter--but I can handle that!

there is nothing more rewarding then being able to do someone's wedding portraits and then have them come back a few years later with a wonderful bundle of joy! I think it is like bringing them to meet their favorite aunt or something like that! We get so excited to meet the new little ones!

Categories include 0-6 months, 6-12 months, 1-2 yrs, 2-3 yrs and 3-4 yrs. Applicants must email a websized image of the child, date of birth, parents name and contact information to Selena at selena@highlitephotography.com. Incomplete applications will be disqualified. Applicants will be accepted until February 5th, 2010.

This adorable family with the cutest dog, Chewy, came to visit Highlite Photography. I think we kind of had a crush on this little English Bulldog! We are having the "hippest dog in town" contest and I am thinking that this little guy needs to sign up!

I am so excited for them to come into the studio tomorrow to view there pictures--such a fun shoot to go through!

Photography Follow up Class!

Hurray for Highlite's Beginning Photo Class! We had such a great time in our class last Saturday I can't even stand it! We had so many cute ladies in our studio eager and ready to learn! We enjoyed meeting all of them and getting to know them a little bit. Thanks to everyone who participated!

We just got back from Nashville, TN. Our annual conference was held there and so we headed out for a few days to learn more about the field, see current trends and most of all--have a blast! We have some really fun things up our sleeve that should be taking place very soon, but can't quite share yet!

Here are the top tens things I loved at Imaging

10. Sharing time with Marc--Such a rare thing with this business for us to slow down and enjoy each other's company. Whether it was giggling with each other and me {Mindy} sleeping on his shoulder during a long class--it really was alot of fun!
9. Going to the Grand Ole Opry--I felt like I had been transported in time--This is perhaps one of the funnest things I have ever done!
8. Reading the book, "The Lone Survivor"--I needed this when we got delayed in the airport for 24 hours! I definately felt like a lone survivor by the time we got to our destination.
7. Meeting Sarah Petty--I think I have always idolized her marketing skills! Wanted to smooch her, but thought that wasn't professional! Check her out at cafejoy.com.
6. Eating at fun restaurants with all the Utah photogs there! Shoot who would have known how much fun you can have without alcohol! Loved the Irish pub with live music!
5. Buying 12 songs from Triple Scoop! Yeah, I have wanted songs from them--can't wait!
4. Ordering in a Chocolate Seduction dessert from room service! Enough said!
3. Calling home to find out that my kids did NOT miss me and wondered if we could stay a bit longer on our trip!
2. Buying a massaging tool and acupuncture tool from the trade show. Because we were bored, a group of Utah photogs got together and basically shocked each other! Couldn't have laughed more than when we thought we might have killed one of them!
1. Finally breaking the news to one of the most darling photogs there that Marc was indeed not Jon Schmidt the piano player! She thought Marc was living under an alias for years. She even went to one of John's concerts and told John that she liked his pictures. Poor thing--yes, Marc is NOT John Schmidt even though he looks like him!

Can't wait for 2011 at San Antonio! Rock on! Love our Utah Photographers forever! Seriously, we have the greatest in the states!

Urban Family Photos--Never Too Cold for Family Pics

Yes, we ventured out for a family shoot yesterday in this weather! The family was just troopers to battle the cold, but I think it was well worth it!

We are winding down with our Christmas orders. It has been so fun to see everyone come in to pick up Christmas Cards and orders. What a fun time of year this is.

We are now beginning to shift our focus to the fun for the new year. I am so excited for what is in store...can't wait!!!!

Snowy Day Portraits

Tips for Kids

Highlite Photography is definately known for our ability to work with kids. Selena, Marc, Davi and I all come from homes with lots of kids. We LOVE working with them and have found that they love us back.

We did this sitting about a week ago at Thanksgiving Point Gardens. I was so thrilled with these parents--hats go off to them as we battled the cold weather with the kids. They kept going and just were happy and fun! I think this mom wins the award for "Super MOM." She was amazing with her kids! As we are now moving into cold weather, our clients are still begging us to go outside with them. Our studio is a warm fun place for indoor pictures this time of year, but the Utah scenery is amazing!!! We are happy to do snowy portraits, but it adds a new dimension to the entire experience. Let me give you some tips that help--

BE POSITIVE. Remember when we were kids and our mom's begged us to put our coats on, but we swore we weren't cold?! If you keep telling your children "oh you are so cold"--they will stop working with us and focus on the weather. Tell them how fun the snow is and help them explore.

BE PREPARED. I know, it is the Boy Scout motto-but I can't stress this enough. Bring mittens, scarfs to wrap their faces, boots and warm coats and blankets. Of course, we aren't going to photograph you bundled up like frosty the snowman, but you will have some time to wait--stay bundled up while you are waiting.

HOT CHOCOLATE--Bring some hot cocoa along in a thermos--this is fun for the kids to have after the sitting! It warms them up and is a fun treat to look forward too!

RELAX. Family portraits are stressful. But, once you arrive, the rest is up to us. It is extremely difficult for us to work when our clients are stressed to the max. The more you relax, the better the experience becomes and the better the final product looks. If you are uptight, children will quickly read into it and they won't relax. Be happy!!!

PHOTOGRAPHY ROcKs! The other day I was listening to a reporter say that 70% of all people are in the wrong field and aren't fulfilled. Each day I come to work, it feels exciting and full of fun and challenge. I guess I can say that I am in the 30% of FULFILLED people.

We are right in the process of getting all the orders in for Christmas. I worked all day today (yes, I missed church). I keep telling myself, we are almost there. It is so fun to watch people come in and pick up their Christmas orders. I think it will be a little sad to let this time of year end. Such a fun time of year!

Horses & Families- Perfect Combination

I really believe in "the secret"--a method of positive thinking. It is actually what I used in getting a studio in Gardner Village a few years ago--I put it out there and eventually it came to be. Anyway, so this year, I wanted to do a picture with a family and horses. Perhaps it is because I grew up in Star Valley and loved the country look. Sounds a bit silly, but I really wanted this to happen, so I put "the secret" to the test once again.

So, this adorable family called and asked us if we could come to Roosevelt and photograph them and their horse that just won a big race. I just wanted to skip around the store. Even better, we decided to head up a day early and were able to stay at Daniel's Summit Lodge. Marc and I enjoyed a bit of R&R while getting massages and eating a bit of dinner together--something that is rare for us during this time of year. We definately needed this since we are working like Santa's little elves with our heads cut off! It was such a great experience to see apart of Utah that I had never seen before.

We also took a picture of one of their displays in their home that we have done for them this past summer. It is 2-16x20 ceiling tin frames along with a 24x36 ceiling tin frame. It look fabulous in their home!

Alright got to go home--we have a sick little girl at home that needs a momma around!

We are so happy to have been a small part of watching them grow and develop into greatness--they are now open in the South Town Mall and Fashion Place--

Now--I have to add a funny little comment about the cute little African American girls--they are twins who were adopted from Africa about a year ago. They are the cutest things I think I have encountered in a long time. They would ask to shake your hand, giggle and kiss each other. When you ask them, where are you from--they say, "Ethopia--not by Africa, but in Africa." They made me laugh the whole time!

FUN FUN! Family Portraits Salt Lake City Utah Photographer

We have to agree--this was one of our most enjoyable family sessions ever! This family headed over to the gorgeous Thanksgiving Point Gardens with us. We were able to score a few golf carts to cruise around on with the family and all of our equipment. The weather was perfect and the grounds were beautiful! From squeeling tires to adventures in finding the hidden garden, we LOVED every minute of it! I can't wait for them to see all of them!

Now, if I can get a cute family to photograph cutting down their Christmas tree in the forest--hum.....de...dum....

We are getting ready for the Christmas rush! We recently purchased some funky Christmas backdrops for the studio and yes, it doesn't include any cheesy fake snow!!! We also announced our photography classes we will be doing in January! Things are getting exciting around here!

Yesterday, cute Angie Larsen called and invited us to go on Good Things Utah in the next couple weeks! I am getting some fun things put together just for her! Can't wait!

Finally...Funky Family Photographer Utah

What a cute family this is--we have been photographing this adorable family for the past several years. Gosh, they get cuter every time we see them!

It has been awhile since I posted last....We headed over to the annual IPPA convention this past weekend where we learned lots of new things and even bought some fun additions for the studio. I am most excited about some fun backdrops we bought for FAMILY Christmas pictures this year! YUMMY!

We are also thrilled to have won First Place in the Family Portrait Division for IPPA. I think my hats go off to the hippies with a van that we did this summer. I think they deserve first place just for dressing up like that! Marc was also named to the board for IPPA; this should be a fun new adventure for him!

From the Back of the Van- Fall Photos Utah Photographer

The other day we did pics of this adorable family. When they arrived, my heart was jumping up and down--who couldn't fall instantly in love with such a cute family? This cute couple own a bakery in Provo and just recently are getting ready to open another one in Lehi. As we talked to them, it made me realize of how fun and challenging it can be to work together as a couple and still maintain a level of chaos that won't scar our children's future.

Mind if I reminisce for a minute, but it was about ten years ago that Marc and I decided to take our photography business seriously. But the word "serious" back then included driving a huge scooby doo van look alike to our fall setting. Each session included a three 8x10s for a few bucks. Giving them instant gratification, we opened the back of the van to display a huge 13" television where they were able to pick out their prints. Marc attached the camera to the television with a few cords and our "instant salesroom" was set. Each person carefully selected their 8x10s and off they went. We were thrilled with our day's work and drove home into the sunset in our scooby doo look alike van!

Those were the days! Now, we have a beautiful studio, a great presentation room and much more experience under our belt. I wouldn't ask to have it any other way. We have learned and struggled together as a couple as we have learned how to run a business. My hats go off to any husband and wife business team who work together. You rock!

Marc and I have always loved this time of year. We began taking fall family portraits many years ago when we first started out business. It really is where Highlite Photography began--out in the woods with a very trusting family the first year! It grew from one family the first year to over 100+ families that we will photograph this fall! Wowzers!!!

Each year, the families seem to become better at figuring out the clothing situation, perhaps one of the most stressful things about family portraits. I have always said, Dress like you would decorate your home. Begin with a main color palette like a chocolate brown. Then use a mid tone throughout your clothing such as a taupe color and then use a bit of an accent, like burgundy. This family was great! They did such a beautiful job on their clothing selection!

We love what we do!!!

The other day, Marc and I headed downtown for a gorgeous high school senior girl who seriously was so cute with her outfits and car--I LOVED it! Wish we could have stayed there forever!

Right after the shoot, we headed over to The Melting Pot for dinner. Hats off to my awesome sister in law who had the kids stay over night! While at dinner, I realized how much I love good things. If you haven't eaten over at The Melting Pot, I would highly recommend it! I knew I was in trouble when the first sign I read when walking in there said "The Best Place to Blow your Diet!" Anyway, the food and service was remarkable! It made me even more encouraged to continue to provide an exceptional product to our clients along with amazing service! The things we learn while eating.... Oh yeah, I realized too, just how much I love working with my adorable hubby. Nothing in the world can be more rewarding to work hard together.

What an awesome client. They were looking for a few months for a photographer that fit their fun beautiful style. After coming across Highlite, they scheduled an appointment with us. They even came in and we went through clothing selection and even turned one of their daughter's shirts into a skirt! I can't say enough about just how cute these guys were. The hubby used the guitar to purpose to her awhile ago, so he wanted it in the pictures just as a memory-SWEET--ok, ok--so, we asked them to come back and do ANOTHER shoot with us next week because we loved them so much!

Tonight I met with our cute bride and her mom. I was going through these with them and I told them that I just had to share these pics. They are so gorgeous of her! She has been a great bride to work with--so funky with her gorgeous country style. They brought their frames in today and they were old tin and wooden frames--perfect!

We have been SO SO busy lately that I feel a bit bad that I have neglected the blog family! I got up this morning and headed into the office at 7 am and here I am at 8:17pm. Wowzers-too long of a day!

I have to say just how much we enjoyed this family--they have booked this sitting forever ago, so it was exciting for us to finally be able to do it with them. This shoot started out with the morning being a bit windy and stormy. Mom and daughters had a hair appointment later that day. Mom was a trooper and just wanted to go for it and trust that the weather would clear up later in day. And, it DID! I told them that they must be living right because it seemed like everything was so perfect this night (ok, except for big bugs, spiders and the scent). I have to say that when I was going through these to see which ones to blog, I picked out 30 pics--but I didn't want to bore anyone. I LOVE THESE!!!

This type of shoot is limited in our studios. We only do five families a year for the sunset look. It is such a treat for us to spend the evening with such amazing families and enjoy one of the most romantic settings for a family portrait.

i know, i know--you are luvin' the summertime and don't want it to be done, but let me give you some helpful information...(fall portraits book up before the summer ends)

We all want fall portraits for our mantles for Thanksgiving and to put in our Christmas Cards. Often times we worry about what to wear. So, girls (and guys)--if you are school shopping right now, buy outfits that would coordinate with your fall portraits so that you don't have to buy one more outfit for the kids. The gorgeous layers and textures of clothing are really the latest style. If you buy the funky jacket for school and it coordinates with fall portraits, it really makes economical sense.

Also, people always ask me, "What do I wear?" My answer is, "Where are we going to be putting the portrait at?" If your home is chocolate browns with ivory, wear coordinating clothing to match the room.

The other day I saw pumpkin and blue combined together--such a gorgeous combination together with the orange fall leaves.

Call today--our first fall setting will take place on Friday & Saturday, September 25 & 26--this is stunning with the white bark of the quaking aspen trees and their golden leaves. I have eight slots left for this one!

I am also showing The Lake setting--this was our most POPULAR location last year.

Must love photography and Gardner Village and even be willing to dress up like a witch when the time comes! Person must be willing to work on Saturdays and flexible. A team player is a MUST! The fun of being a photographer--we were driving by a wheat field the other day and I started yelping--we got to do this now! So, sure enough--we did a shoot in the wheat field. I love the warmth that the wheat gives off; neat texture and so beautiful when it is photographed. Thx to Chloe who is one of our adorable Highlite employees that is so cute. luvin' her!

I am so hoping to do a few families in the next few weeks in the wheat field before it gets cut down--I have located some wheatfields that seem as big as "sea to shining sea!" Like Mother like Daughter

what a great day--have been in the store at the village today getting caught up on a few things while Marc and Selena have been out shooting a cute family and then a bride and groom. Marc told me today that a photographer left a whole bag of lens at the location they were at. Luckily, Marc knew the photog who left them and was able to get a hold of him! Woozers!!!

this cute pic is of one of the store owners at the village and her daughters. They came in for the cutest five generation pictures with great great grandma (who was 90 years old) and on down--what a treat. We told them to say "grandma is a hottie" and what fun it is to see three grandmas laugh at the same time!!!

well, heading out for the night. got to go to the store to buy "stuff" for camp for my daughter. stuff. stuff. stuff.

Yes, we did get some beautiful pictures in the studio that look like a sister missionary, and then...WE had a little bit of fun with her. she joked later that she did pictures with the scriptures opened, but put her own twist on it--gotta luv girls with some spice to them!

A few days ago, we headed up to take pics of one of our cute clients' kids and grandkids. We were able to go up to Albion Basin and see how the wildflowers are coming--we are just getting so excited about our wildflower shoots at the end of the month. The kids were so cute--the older ones thought they were models and the two knew she was the boSS.

Also, I had a very teaching moment yesterday. We had a dear family who had scheduled next Tuesday evening to do pictures with Highlite Photography. However, one of their sweet children was suddenly put on lifesupport and they have no idea of what is to come. It made me think of how priceless family pictures are--they aren't family pictures unless we are all there. Gosh, my heart just aches for them. I have hugged my kids all last night, hugged them before I went to work and spent just a little extra time with them. Life is so short; treasure your family!!!

After a fabulous vacation to Lake Powell, we are back safe and sound! I have pics to share soon, but thought I would quickly blog and say hello!

Lake Powell for me is really a spiritual journey everytime I go. Some people go to kick back, relax and chill. I really go to contemplate the past year, write out new goals and heal any wrong that needed some attention. and then...I have a blast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, here is my top ten list of DISCOVERIES...

10. Lizards crawling inside the houseboat are as scary as a mouse in the house!

9. When you are out swimming in the lake, be careful not to pull a fishing line--you could end up pulling out a dead lizard on a hook (true story--happened to Christi)!

8. Angie from Good Things Utah is a joy to listen to at 10 a.m. on the weekday mornings, but not so enjoyable when she is djs the latest singles talent show at 1 a.m.on a loud sound system on the next houseboat over.

7. When the greatest rebellion comes from eating the cashews and M&Ms from the trailmix and leaving the raisins, you know the week is going to be great.

6. Read the most perfect book for the trip--Eat, Pray and Love--loved it!

5. Found great comfort and guidance in archetype cards, from the chronos to the cosmic, luvin' it!

4. Realized that not being able to go to the bathroom can be a very painful experience!

3. Bought a shirt that said, "Rest, ride, relax, repeat"--now that is a spiritual manifestation!

2. Saw my girls waterski, attempt to wakeboard and tubing--no greater joy comes from seeing them be determined!

1. CONQUERED a 14 year old fear!!! Fourteen years ago, we were in Lake Powell and went cliff jumping. I got so freaked out by a jump, that I never was able to jump again. This year, I decided I needed some mental toughness and, I DID IT!!! I have some pics I will post later. So so proud that I was able to overcome it!

I know it had been raining a lot lately but this is why you never cancel even when you think it is going to rain! You can't get a more beautiful picture! This family stuck right through this shoot even though we saw some scary storm clouds approaching. Why do I love these pictures so much!? Cute family, cute clothes, great light, awesome clouds and great talent. What more do you need!?

Grandpa's Old Truck

Ok-ok--please let me explain--look very closely at the grandkid picture. I tried to pose them with as a heart! I didn't tell grandma and grandpa what I was up too--but, I think it worked! Tell me what you think?!

Marc and I thoroughly enjoy families--I think I find no greater joy than seeing families together happy, cute and well dressed. So, grandma and grandpa wanted a cute picture of them and their grandchildren--I thought of this place and knew it had to be! Can you believe that there is NO kids headswaps in this picture??!! I think, honestly, it comes from being the great family that was photographed, and yes, it too is our absolute love and passion for what we do. Marc takes off running and tickling the kids while one of us captures the moment. What a treasure.

I had to include the picture of grandpa and grandma walking--I think he was a bit twitterpatted by his cute wife!!!

Today Selena and I were out doing a shoot with the cutest little kids--I was talking to the little boy and he was getting a little bit wiggly. I said to him, "do you have bouncies in your pants?" Mom and Selena both were laughing at me. So, today, Selena keeps saying "bouncies in your pants!"

I had to blog this "Field of Dreams" that we have a Gardner Village. Right now the grass is so beautiful and tall. June's rain has done some good for us!!! We have had a lot of clients requesting the grassy look for their Village Special--so, I am blogging a few that we have done out there this week. The other day we had a cute family come in for a Village Special--of course, the Utah weather is behaving like we live in the tropics and not in the mountains. Anyway, a huge thunderstorm was blowing in and mom was in tears because she was worried about what we were going to do. I told her that we could do them in the studio. I was so excited to do them there since our retoucher, Vi, had just went to a course to paint a new canvas backdrop for us. So--we went ahead and tried it out--well, all I have to say is "Thank goodness it rained in June!" Couldn't have loved them more than this!

Please remember that our Village Special is going on June-July. It is a mini session and held on Tuesday & Fridays. We booking like crazy over here--so call if you want to get in. Cruisin' Family at the Sand Dunes

The other day I was thinking about how fun family outings are and what fun it is to really capture a family in their "element." This reminded of this shoot that we did last summer at Little Sahara with the G family's four wheelers and motorbikes. They loaded up the bikes and we followed on a Friday night down to the sand and did pictures--I have to say these were some of my all time favorite family pictures we have ever done!

We are heading to Lake Powell in a couple of weeks and I was thinking what fun it would be to take cool family pictures of us in Powell (of course before we get hammered and sunburnt). I guess the ideal thing would be to photograph a gorgeous family in Lake Powell that week--aaahhhh--I can see it now--so, if you are in Lake Powell (Arizona side) the last week in June--let us know-we just might be able to work something out!

I loved this cute family--Marc loved them because they are Yankee Fans!! My fav picture of them is when the kids are laughing--I wonder who they were laughing at!!

This weekend we were over at Thanksgiving Point Gardens for our Spring Garden Portrait Event. I am thrilled with all the gorgeous photos that Marc and Selena took. I was even there to root on many of the cute families!!! Woohoo!

just got home from the Bees game tonight. getting ready for Good Things Utah tomorrow. bought the cutest red shoes with huge flowers from Nordy's today. sure those won't show on tv, but got to fill confident with new red shoes?!

so, the rest of the story goes like this...

The Fab Five (things that helped us turn a hobby into a business)

We use the greatest painting brush we have to create a masterpiece
We recognized quickly that we are artists with a new type of brush--the camera. Artists must study how art works, different techniques used, lighting, colors and textures. Great art takes time to develop. We have learned, studied and modeled after some of the best. I love Walden's mission statement, "We want to capture what only the heart can see with the quality only a few can produce." Marc and I learned that in a sitting, there is usually a "masterpiece" in the mix. Meaning, one split second where the lighting was right, the expression was perfect, the crop was beautiful. It is those "masterpieces" we are striving for and what ultimately the client wants too.

Never settle
Marc at a very young age played baseball. He was taught that second is never good enough--something I love in him. Marc spends countless hours reading books, praticing and contemplating how to get the perfect shot. Often times, we will sit down and critique a session. I will tell him what I like and don't like--next thing I know, he is back trying to figure how to perfect himself. I believe that Marc will continue to strive for the best because it is engrained in who he is. We continually are pushing ourselves and employees to be the best & most amazing. Nothing is more satisfying than pushing ourselves to master the beast--photography.

Recognize our strengths
Photography has such a wide variety of subjects from commercial to pet photography. We really have found that anyone can take a picture of a building, bride or baby. But, we are professionals and recognize inorder to get better, we have to be specific in our field. We have found our passion to be family & children photography. The other day, someone called and asked us to do some commercial photography. I told them that we are portrait photographers--that is our strength.

Build a business on portraits, not cds
If you let me, I would write a novel on this one particular subject--but I won't bore you to tears. Highlite Photography has built our business on portraits, not cds. To me, this is one of the key reasons we are where we are today. Our clients have always come to us to get amazing portraits--not pictures. Today, anyone can put a blog together, buy a camera and burn a cd--not everyone can produce a piece of photo art so precious to a client. We have found that our clients are seeking 1-3 images for their home with just a handful of pictures to give to family members. If we gave them a cd, chances are they would never do anything with the cd. We are truly giving our clients what they came to us for--something "only the heart can see with the quality only a few can produce."

Love.Love.Love
Marc and I truly love--we love each other, the people we serve and the talents we have been blessed with. It makes me so excited to see people come through our studio doors. Sometimes I want to get my tap shoes on, and just do a little dance for them. Portraits are happy moments. They capture people we love. I left social work many years ago to pursue a career in photography. I wanted to capture families that loved more, children that laughed harder and cried less and moments that could be bottled up and kept forever. We have found this through our camera lens--through portraits

where it all began

so..can i tell you something? Today is my day off to clean out the fridge, weed the garden, pick up my bike from the shop, put away clothes in my closet that don't fit along with the hundreds of other things I need to do! But, here I am--blogging! sound familar?

The other day, someone asked me how this all got started--you know, the crazy life of photography. I will answer that for you all...

Marc and I (yes, Mindy--like Morc and Mindy) met at Dixie College almost 18 years ago. I was the editor of the newspaper and he was the photo editor. I spent many hours with him in the dark room (ooh la la). He even hid my wedding ring in his camera bag before he proposed. I knew that I was destined to be married to Marc and a camera. I willing agreed and we were married 17 years ago in August!

Marc went on to work with a wonderful photographer in a studio while I pursued my love of social work. After graduating from University of Utah, Marc focused on business and went to work with Usana. I quit my job with juvenile court and had three beautiful daughters. Within a few years of working for Usana, we were asked to move to New Zealand for the company. This experience honestly changed us forever--we grew together as a family and mended some personal wounds. Marc returned home to get a Masters Degree at Westminster College. Working for Usana from ground up has been absolutely amazing as we learned many wonderful lessons on building our own business.

After returning home, Marc and I began to take more pictures for family and friends. Seeing how much Marc enjoyed this, I realized that as a wife and friend, I needed to encourage him to pursue his passion. He asked me to focus on the retouching aspect that I had learned years ago in college while he would sharpen his knowledge in photography. This seems weird to me sometimes because I see all these women who are photographers--I guess we are just a bit backwords! We dived into photography full throttle reading every magazine we could, attending courses together and countless hours praticing on our girls.

Five years ago we built a new home with a studio in our basement. Thanks to many friends and family members who let us practice on them, we began to learn and grow more. I have to laugh--our first set was a painted white wall with painted white cement! Go baby! Marc became better at photography quickly because I was not patient! I hated fixing things in photoshop--so, he was a quick learner--he didn't want to go to bed with a grumpy wife! Our business began to grow rapidly--almost too quickly. I spent 12 hours a day on the computer seven days a week while Marc worked his full time job.

so........................we had to create a plan of action! Turning a hobby into a business is so tricky! Stay tuned for my next post... I will tell you how we did it!

for now..I got to go clean out the closet, pick up the bike, weed the garden, clean the fridge and what else? oh yeah, buy a new outfit for Good Things Utah on Friday--is it possible to lose 50 lbs in two days? I better go pick up my bike first!

It is BACK!!! Village Special is here!!!

Last night, Marc and Davi did a very cute family in the Village. I was home with the girls and saw the thunder clouds rolling in. I thought for sure Marc would end the shoot quickly and return home. But, he kept going. When he got home, I asked him what took so long and he said that they were just too cute to stop shooting!!! Yah for cute families! We ask ourselves all the time--why do the cutest families come to us?! We think we are a bit spoiled over here!

Anyway, last summer we did a Village Special for our sweet families. Back by popular demand--it is BACK! The Village Special is a thirty minute photo shoot here in the village. It is perfect for your sweet newborn baby in our cozy studio or your little family who needs an updated picture! This special is also perfect for your missionary, your tweener who doesn't want to go to that "kiddie place" for a picture or a sweet baby who needs a yummy birthday picture! When is it??? We will be doing it every Tuesday & Friday in June from 10-3 and then Friday evenings from 6-8 pm. It is good for up to six people per session. What is the cost? Country Chic Family Portrait Event

Just Chillin' on the Train

Got to love this little guy! He is the last of our Sassy Babies winner for 2009. Have to share this little experience with you all. So, we showed up at the train tracks with polka ties and white shirt. Needless to say, the white shirt was off within the first five minutes of the shoot. So, we had to do his pics bare chested! His happiness came from cold chicken nuggets and throwing the ties in the dirt. Have to say this little guy has some personality. I giggle to myself now and realize that his winning picture was taken when he was in the bathtub. I must say that he would have to live there to stay clean!

Charger Rocks the House!

So, we are just dying over here with the Sassy Babies winners! We are so excited each time one of them is scheduled for a shoot--they definately have not disappointed us one bit! We can't wait to get them up on the wall--hoping within the next few weeks it will be happenin'.

Charger is absolutely amazing--I think he is a real model! With looks to die for, we have to say, "Charger rocked the House!"

Chug a Chug A Choo Choo

Why are little boys so stinkin' cute on a train? I have three girls of my own, so everytime we do pics of a little guy on a train, it makes me want to eat the little guys up. I mean who wouldn't want trains, trucks and balls to play with. I think triple the amount of barbies, hormones and hairspray is just asking for a few trains along the way.

This little guy is in our Bellesnbeaus Club; an exclusive year of beautiful pictures that ends up in a fun album! Little CT wasn't up to being a train conductor for long! But, he is just a beautiful guy!

We are excited for this Saturday--our Urban Kid & Family Portrait Event!! Wahoo--we hunted for the perfect place and I think we have it guys! It is going to rock. We have had so much success with this event, that we will be adding an Urban Family event in June & July!!!

So I often I hear that Senior Boys rarely want their pics done, but we know that those mommas want them!! I think that senior boys are just the cutest things ever--here they come with the attitude "ok, mom just for you." But, when you get them in front of the camera, they step up to the challenge and ROCK THE HOUSE!
